The Locabuck Pay-It-Forward T-Shirts… before we bought anything (besides the farm itself) we bought these shirts. It may seem goofy but let me explain the reasoning.
We already have these birds in the field. So we’re already committed to giving them away. We’ve set the price of the “Pay-It-Forward” Shirts to cover the cost of the feed, the birds and the shirts. Locabuck Farm is covering the labor, the package/shipping and the logistics of moving the birds. So there is no profit in it for us.
But let’s break down the Wins…
Win #1: The Local Family.
You buy a “Pay-it-Forward” T-Shirt, a needy family in the area receives a delicious, pasture-raised meat bird from us. So a family is able to have a chicken that in turn can create 2-3 additional meals, just from one bird. Sure there may be additional ingredients needed but the foundation is laid.
Win #2: The T-Shirt by Royal Apparel
We wanted a T-Shirt that was “Made in the USA”. Specifically, Royal Apparel (www.royalapparel.net), based out of New York.
The T-Shirt is awesome. It’s the nice, soft, comfy, vintage type T-Shirts that are pretty popular right now. Personally, I wear mine all the time and I love it.
Win #3: The Printing by Columbus Custom Tees
For our shirt printing, we chose someone from the area, specifically Columbus Custom Tees (http://columbuscustomtees.com) in Columbus. I got a quick tour of their facility and they did a great job and we hope to work with them again in the future.
Win #4: The Hatchery by Meyer Hatchery
As already mentioned, we are using Meyer Hatchery (https://www.meyerhatchery.com) as our primary source for all of our chicks. The hatchery is located in Ohio. Which is VERY important in regards to chick health and vitality because they don’t take long at all to get here. And finally, they are easy to work with. We’ve had to change up our orders a couple of times and they super-accommodating.
Win #5: The Farm
Okay, so our farm chalks up a win for this as well.
We’ve got something to talk about. Get a little marketing. Get our name out there. And above all, we are holding core to our values by giving back.
